Program Description

How the certificate program works


Students complete a six-week certificate program with live instruction. Students are expected to attend a two-hour session twice per week. Modules will be held Tuesdays and Thursdays from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m EST.

Designed for working professionals, the modules will be taught in the evenings and will be recorded for students who cannot attend during the designated time.

A comprehensive, all-inclusive test will be administered at the end of the six-week module before certifications are awarded.

Certificates will be mailed to the address students provided, or students can opt to receive their certificates during a ceremony at the ITGA Annual Conference.

Students attend three required modules and three elective modules of their choice.


Required:

  • Introduction to Town-Gown 101 – Boot Camp (Week 1)
  • Government Relations in Town-Gown Communities (Week 2)
  • University, Faculty and Student Engagement in Town-Gown Relations (Week 3)


Electives (choose one for each week):


Week 4:
  • Alcohol-Beer School 101, or
  • Town-Gown Collaboration in Land Use and Development
Week 5:
  • Building a Strong City/University Partnership, or
  • Sustainability Initiatives as a Bridge Between Campus, Community, and City
 Week 6:
  • Public Safety, Transportation and Parking, or
  • Taxation and Payment in Lieu of Taxes (PILOTs)

Communities of practice will be established to foster a “virtual community” where participants share ideas, resources, brainstorm solutions, and expand collaborative networks.
